The Fraternity of Delta Psi was founded on January 17, 1847 at Columbia University, in New York. For centuries, January 17 has commemorated the life of St. Anthony the Great of Egypt. St. Anthony was adopted as the patron saint of Delta Psi, and his name affixed to our organization.
The fraternity exists to provide a proper preparation for post-college life, which is more than merely being imbued with facts and theories; it includes a process for the expression and expansion of one's ideas and opinions and an opportunity for communication, both intellectual and moral, among equals. Advancement and development are our goals; the bonds of brotherhood are our reward.
Two aspects of our order that set us apart from other Greek organizations are our dedication to secrecy and our tradition as a literary society. We are tight-lipped about all of our proceedings, but our deep roots in literary endeavors are quite apparent. We develop socially, morally, and intellectually through the spoken and written word.
The traditions and principles of St. Anthony Hall, basically unchanged since 1847, have continued to produce numerous outstanding college students and, as a direct result, outstanding men of the world.
Apparent to all those who know St. A’s or are familiar with The Hall, is the universality of our small size. Nationwide, our chapters recruit the highest quality members, while maintaining the limited numbers that allow for close bonds to form with all brothers. We are a small band of brothers who prefer to stay that way, and the achievements of the undergraduates and alumni of the Phi Chapter have vindicated that strategy in recent history and over the past 150 years.
Recent achievements by Phi undergraduates include success in academics, campus involvement, and athletics. Two out of every five active brothers are in the honors college and over one fourth of the brothers achieved 4.0’€™s in the spring semester. It’s no surprise that Delta Psi won the 2005 and 2006 Order of Omega Scholastic Awards.
In campus involvement, St. A’€™s have had cabinet positions under the last four ASB Presidents, have enjoyed membership in all major honor societies, and, this year, hold the offices of, among others, ASB President, Honors College Student Director, and ODK President.
Delta Psi competes at the highest level in intramurals. Over the last two seasons, St. A’€™s have won championships in ultimate and soccer, finished 1st in points in Spring 2005, and made the playoffs in virtually every event.
